Samantha

Hi, I'm Samantha! I recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Music and a minor in Creative Writing. My love of guitar began with an obsession with the band Green Day when I was 12. I felt this burning need to be able to play their songs and write my own songs as well. I began teaching myself everything I could, ending each multi-hour practice session with black dents in my fingertips. In college, I began taking guitar lessons and focused on jazz, improvisation and songwriting.

I’ve played in bands as a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter since early high school. With my band, Meat Cube, I’ve performed more than 100 shows and most recently toured throughout California. I’m also classically trained on the flute and fluent in the jazz flute universe. I also love playing drums and producing and recording my own music.

Alongside performing and writing, I’m passionate about music education. I’ve taught private flute and guitar lessons and spent 3 years teaching group guitar lessons to students ages 6-14 at Rock Band Land in San Francisco. My approach to teaching music is striving for the delicate balance of focusing on the specific interests of my students, while not neglecting the fundamental techniques and theory that will allow for them to possess the toolbox to do anything they want with music! Most of all, I think learning should be fun including working on material my students are excited to play.
